So Andy and I found out we were having a baby on April 22nd. I was supposed to get my period on April 16th but no such luck. I had a little spotting and some BAD cramps but NOTHING. I got through the weekend and thought maybe with all the stuff going on in our daily life maybe I was just a couple days late. PLUS I had the Paragard IUD inserted back in July and there was only a .06% chance of getting pregnant while inserted! Well then I started feeling really sick and my boobs started to hurt. At that point I think we both knew I needed to take a test. So Thursday morning (April 22nd) we went up to Walmart and bought a First Response Test. I thought it was really funny that the tests were located RIGHT next to the tampons. Like HA HA looks like you won't be needing these for the next 9 months. So Andy and I went home and I peed on the stick. Sure enough within 30 seconds the two little lines popped up and I knew that our lives had changed forever. Might I add ... for the better. We were SO excited. But so puzzled because as I stated earlier.. I had an IUD! Could it be possible that we were that .06%? I mean I know some bizarre things happen to us but come on. But then I thought well maybe it fell out? But when and where? I think I would have noticed it... it was a mystery and I knew we had to get to the Drs ASAP. We initially wanted to tell everyone in person after we had seen the DR but we couldn't hold in the excitement so we called Mom B to tell her the news. She of course was SOOOOO excited and we were excited that she was going to be able to be a grandma again! My Mom was at work so we had to wait til she got out before we could tell her so the whole day I felt so antsy. Being the realist that she is, she was shocked but at the same time brought us down to reality and told us not to get too excited without going to the Dr. A lot can happen with the IUD. Depending on location and if it could be removed it could turn my pregnancy into high risk. I appreciate and love the fact she is so honest, I guess I get that from her and I hope our child gets it too! So the next day we went to Planned Parenthood to take a legit test. Sure enough it was positive and our estimated due date was CHRISTMAS! Lol Boy oh boy... not something that I EVER wanted my child to have to go through but there is a very strong possibility they will be celebrating their birthday and Christmas right around the same time. While at Planned Parenthood, being I have no health insurance, they referred me to the local Health Department which here in Seminole County is really really great! So we went over there after and made an appointment for Monday the 26th to have the IUD looked at and hopefully removed! OH OH totally forgot to mention... we did all this on Friday the 23rd... which was Andy and I's 1 year Wedding Anniversary!!!!! Yeah talk about a major present :):):) So cue Monday the 26th. WHAT A LONG DAY! I had to be there at 12:30. Well the worry warts that Andy and I are... we got there at 11:45. So we had to wait 45minutes before we would even be seen. I had A LOT of paperwork to fill out with the Health Department. The initial paperwork took about a hour. Then I was sent down to the Clinic around 1:30. Well Between 1:30 and 2:30 I got pulled in twice to pee in a cup, take my weight and get blood drawn. FINALLY around 2:30 I was pulled into the exam room and LUCKY for me, I got a new nurse. So the 30minute paperwork turned into over a hour of me stating my history, my families history and trying to remember what I knew about Andy's family as well! Finally after all that crap. I got to see the Dr. WHO STATED "If I knew you had an IUD I would have seen you first before all this paperwork!" WELL HELLLLLLOOOO! That was my reason for coming in! I was still very early to have a prenatal visit! I was only 5 weeks! So she looked all up in there and said "Well I know how you got pregnant, your IUD has basically fallen out" She told me to think of it this way: Imagine your belly button is your uterus, and my IUD was basically in the vicinity of my mouth LOL. I guess I understood I DONT KNOW. So she removed it and as we both expected there was no blood which was a great sign. Being I was so early and the placement of it, the chance of miscarriage was a lot lower. But there was still a chance! They gave prenatal vitamins and I was on my way. I have a followup appointment for May 10th to check everything out since the IUD was removed and then my next prenatal visit is for June 1st! June 11th will be when I start my second trimester and we will be in the clear.
In the meantime Andy and I have been looking at stuff on Target.com trying to come up with ideas of what we will be looking forward to. We also ordered some books from Amazon. ("What to expect when your expecting"). I have been trying to eat really healthy and so far have maintained weight. We have been swimming every night before bed for about 45mins to a hour. Other than my boobs getting huge, I haven't been to sickly, a little bit at night but I am VERY tired all day.
So every day I will try and blog something or every couple days to keep everyone posted on this beautiful transition into Parenthood :)
